[UPDATED] Redistricting Timeline for Next Steps
May 17, 2011
by Charles Allen
As you may have started to hear last night, the Council's Special Committee on Redistricting has announced its schedule for next steps in the redistricting process. The Committee is chaired by Councilmembers Michael A. Brown (At-Large) and Jack Evans (Ward 2), with Councilmember Phil Mendelson (At-Large) serving as a member.
The Special Committee has scheduled a vote on a proposed redistricting map on Thursday, May 26th, at 1 pm. That meeting will be held at the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave, NW (the room number hasn't been confirmed yet). While the committee doesn't take public testimony at this meeting, it is open to the public and the public is welcome to attend.
The Special Committee will then hold a public hearing on Thursday, June 2nd, 10:00 am at the John A. Wilson Building (the room number hasn't been confirmed yet). [UPDATE, 5/20/2011, 11:15 am: The public hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 1st, 6:00 pm at the Wilson Building in the Council Chambers, Room 500.] That hearing is open to the public and residents are encouraged to testify. To sign up to testify, please contact Ms. Carol Sadler via email at [email protected] or by phone at 724-8198.
The Council will then debate and consider the proposed map at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 7th, 10 am. That meeting is also open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers of the John A. Wilson Building.
If the special committee follows this schedule, it likely means that the Council would hold its final vote on the redistricting map on Tuesday, June 21st (alternatively, it could move back to Tuesday, July 5th).
will the proposed map be posted online?
Thank you for your hard work on this important issue.
As You are aware, the residents of Capitol Riverfront are very engaged in this issue and will continue to be engaged throughout this process.

As soon as we get the language of the new proposed map, we'll share that online.
I'm with Si Kailian on this -- why are the proposed boundaries impossible to find?
Have the maps been released yet?
Now we know who the senslibe one is here. Great post!
