The Children and Youth Investment Trust Corp. (CYITC) has released its Request for Proposals (RFP) for Fiscal Year 2008, and invites applicants to submit proposals by no later than August 6, 2007, according to testimony by CYITC officials at a hearing convened this week by the Council’s Committee on Human Services. “Nothing is more critical to the public safety and welfare of our citizens than a robust array of healthy and productive activities for our city’s children and youth,” said Councilmember Tommy Wells, Chairman of the Human Services Committee that has oversight responsibility for the CYITC. “The CYITC was established precisely for this purpose - to provide the children and youth of the District with meaningful, quality services in a safe and structured environment.” “This is the eighth straight year the Trust will be making grants through this competitive process for the provision of a variety of programming to support improved outcomes for the District’s children and youth,” added Mr. Wells. The CYITC is a public-private partnership, charged by the District to help a wide variety of organizations improve the quality, quantity and accessibility of services and opportunities for children and youth in the city. The CYITC is seeking proposals from not-for-profit, community-based organizations for the provision of Parent Centers, Out of School Time Programs, and Older Youth Programs, according to Greg Roberts, Executive Director of the CYITC. The Council has appropriated more than $14 million to the CYITC in next year’s budget.
