Councilmember Tommy Wells reiterated his support today for DC Public School Repair Blitz. “I continue to support the “blitz”, but it should not come at the expense of the District’s school modernization commitments. DC Public Schools has to live up to the promises it made to fully rebuild and modernize our school buildings,” stated Mr. Wells. Capital funding has been appropriated and allocated to help modernize Walker-Jones Elementary School. With little notice or explanation, $2,999,999 has been proposed to be re-programmed away from school modernization efforts. Councilmember Wells requested information from DC Public Schools to explain this move but got no response. As a result, Mr. Wells filed a notice at Council that delays shifting these funds until the questions are answered. “The students and families have waited long enough and I won’t stand by and see their school modernization dollars taken away,” responded Mr. Wells. ### |
