Matt Thorton of the Higher Achievement Program attended the recent Town Hall meeting with Michelle Rhee. He asked to share information about mentoring opportunities in Ward 6 and we asked him to send information to post online. Below is the information he sent and we encourage you to get involved! DC's award-winning academic enrichment program, Higher Achievement, is in need of volunteer teaching mentors! This is a chance to give well-deserved academic opportunities to motivated kids who are under-served by their schools, their circumstances, and their neighborhoods.
We are in need of mentors to teach Math, Literature, and Technology to a group of 2-3 middle-school scholars. Please go to www.higherachievement.org and click "volunteer" to apply. Consider giving 2 hours of your week to this influential cause!
A recent Washington Post article highlighted the hard work of our volunteer mentors and scholars. Our program gets results. Come be a part of this good cause! The Ward 6 Achievement Center is locatd at Stuart Hobson Middle School, 410 E Street NE.
