For regular readers of the DC Register, they'll see that the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC Board) today published final rulemaking for the H Street Moratorium on the sale of singles and small containers of liqour. Today's publication is the official action necessary by the ABC Board to set an effective date for the moratorium -- October 1, 2007. Back on July 10th, Council gave its final approval to establishing the moratorium. In addition to publishing the final rules, the ABC Board has mailed letters to the affected businesses notifying them of the official action and giving them more than 30 days notice before the measure will take effect on October 1st. The three-year moratorium applies to the sale of single containers of beer, malt liqour, ale, as well as spirits (liqour) sold in half-pints or smaller by class A and B retailers. The area affected is the 700 block to the 1400 block of H Street, NE. Click Here for the full press release from Tommy. Readers have left 5 comments. (1) Untitled 2007-08-24 12:02:54 Outstanding! What is the status for putting the same moratorium into effect for blocks 200-600 of H St.? Any thoughts on how the H Street singles moratorium for blocks 700-1400 will effect the neighborhood near the 200-600 blocks of H, where a liquor store still sells singles? Written by Guest User () (3) Untitled 2007-08-24 16:17:27 ANC Commissioner Alan Kimber told me that ANC 6C will be holding a public hearing on a similar moratorium effort in September. And speaking of ANC's, I want to make sure everyone knows that ANC 6A deserves a lot of credit for seeing this through. They did the heavy lifting for the last several years to get us to this point. (4) Untitled 2007-09-12 23:47:15 A great way to help H Street NE and all of Capitol Hill. (5) Untitled 2008-05-28 15:23:44 H Street Merchanes from last weeks meeting would like to have respect. They would like to be compensated for their lost. They would like to known what is going to happen to their business in Oct 2008. When the streets between 3rd and 7th are being closd. 1. Parking for the their customers. 2. How are the police going to be notified about the change. 3. Will there be any money to supplement them went they losse customers. How will the Mayor or the District of Columbia protect them in this situation. The merchanes don't want what 7th Street in the late 1970'd to have to them. They want to be protect just like GeorgeTown would be protect if something like this would happen. Also, They're were changes made and no one in the surrounding community was notified of those changes. Be fair to us like you would any any other citizens on the avenue. Vice President Daniel M. Pernell, III See you Thursday, May 29, 2008.
