On Saturday, August 18th the 1600 Block of G Street, SE had their first ever Block Party from 2-7pm. The idea was embraced by the neighborhood for building community identity and morale, getting to know our neighbors, and giving the children on our street a great day of fun before school started. Through the cooperation of a number of dedicated residents, the party was planned quickly, but it took neighborhood-wide participation to make this event successful with over 200 people in attendance! From volunteers who spent an entire Friday evening cleaning up the street before the party, to those who signed the petition, worked the grill or attended weekly meetings, we were pleased to find such a wonderful display of community when working towards this common goal. We also received some help from outside our neighborhood and would like to acknowledge the Capitol Hill Community Foundation for their contribution towards food for the community BBQ. We are especially thankful to the office of Councilmember Wells, who was generous enough to donate bottled water and beverages on that day. With assistance from our outside supporters, there were enough food and drinks for all of our guests.
