Our office has received many phone calls about the construction taking place at Lincoln Park. As some may know, Lincoln Park is owned and managed by the federal National Park Service (NPS), rather than by the District. We contacted the NPS about the work, and below is an exerpt of their response: "The park is being fenced off to replace the interior walks on the west side of the park. The fence is necessary to keep visitors and their pets out of the construction area for obvious safety reasons. The contract period is for 90 days, however, we anticipate the project taking less than half of that time. There is a very limited possibility that we will be able to complete the east side of the park without having to remobilize the contractor and of course the fence would then be shifted to the east side of the park."
Mr. Frank Young is the point of contact at the National Park Service for the work being done. He asked us please share his contact information for anyone that has any additional questions or comments -- email:

One person has commented on this article. (1) Untitled 2007-10-25 15:34:06 That (NPS statement) expains the chain link fence around the entire east end of Lincoln Park (if not the barbed wire on top), but what are the metal pipe posts for inside the northeast section of the park? They appear to be poised to create a fence within a fence, so is this the unannounced beginning of something else? |
