Some good news for Mount Vernon Triangle residents around 5th and Massachusetts Avenue, NW. Following a Walk Through in the neighborhood, Councilmember Wells made repeated requests to the National Park Service to improve public safety of the federally controlled parks at this intersection. With the federal agency not responding, Tommy made a request to the DC Department of Transportation to explore what it can do to increase lighting around these parks. DDOT has responded that they will be adding overhead lights to the parks to improve visibility and public safety in the park. We don't yet know the details of exactly when they will be installed, but we'll keep you up to date on that improvement. You can read the letters below. (1) Untitled 2008-01-18 11:04:48 What can we do about the parks along Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, including Seward Square, which have become defacto squatter camps for the homeless. Can the Parks Department remove the benches to discourage loitering and public drinking and can MPD increase patrols to stop public drinking? Written by Guest User () |
