Councilmember Tommy Wells to Host Ward 6 Pedestrian Safety Forums

(Washington, DC) – Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells today announced a series of two Ward 6 Pedestrian Safety Forums -- the first to focus on identifying problems and the second to focus on creating solutions.

“It doesn’t matter in which corner of Ward 6, or frankly the city, I hear the constant concern of residents afraid to cross the street, parents fearing for their children and neighbors angry with speeding commuters and fed up with being at risk,” stated Mr. Wells.

The first forum is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27th, 6:30-8:00 p.m. The focus of the first forum will be to work with residents and local Advisory Neighborhood Commissions to identify specific problems facing pedestrian safety in the Ward.

The second forum is scheduled for Saturday, March 15th, 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The focus of the second forum will be on creating solutions for the problems identified at the first forum. The Department of Transportation will be involved to share their latest efforts, and experts will be on hand to discuss pedestrian safety and traffic engineering strategies that can improve our neighborhoods. In addition, the solutions forum will include breakout sessions where residents and community leaders can spend time working on specific problems and develop strategies.

Both forums will be held at Hine Junior High School, 335 8th Street SE, Washington, DC 20003. The school is conveniently located near Eastern Market Metro Station to improve accessibility for the ward.

“I hope everyone will join me for these important meetings. It’s going to take a community partnership to make a difference and I’m grateful we’ve got so many Ward 6 residents up to the challenge,” commented Mr. Wells.
