Change order. The weather. What are they going to blame next? Dog ate homework? Ran out of ink in inkjet cartridge? Pitiful.

I don't think that the lack of posts should be taken as lack of concern about the Lincoln Park situation. Those of us who live near the park and use it regularly have been extremely frustrated by the lack of information about the construction project, and the long stretches of time both last fall (when the weather was relatively warm) and recently when no work was done. The west end of the park has been fenced off for more than 4 months and there is still a lot of work to be done at this end. There are no workers there now - can we expect construction to start again soon, or is there a major hitch because of a change order? When does the Park Service expect the project to be completed? More information, please!

Another week over, with no work done. What is happening? If this project isn't going to be finished soon, how about moving the fence so it only encloses the actual work sections instead of the entire grassy area?

Unfortunately, Lincoln Park is under the control and management of the National Park Service, a part of the Federal, not District, government. Our office has repeatedly asked the National Park Service to change the way they've gone about this project, but the District has no oversight. Councilmember Wells has arranged a meeting with US Senator Daniel Akaka, who chairs the Senate subcommittee with oversight for the National Park Service, to work on a plan to improve service at NPS parks for local neighbors and to work more closely with the District.

Thanks for the update. However, this whole thing is pathetic. Why would they schedule work that is sensitive to cold and rain for the winter? This was poorly planned and has been even more poorly executed.

Does Frank Young have an email address?
Was there in fact an onsite meeting on February 27?
Does anyone know what the change order was about?
The west side of the park looks just terrible- messy, unkept, and unusable.

This "update" was nothing of the sort. I'm not sure who was on "the list" to receive the actual revised schedule, but I would hope it includes Linda O'Brien. So how about posting what was received, or getting back in touch with Mr. Young to find out why nothing was sent?
P.S. Does anyone know if Robert Parker is still the manager of the Capitol Hill parks?

Can you get any more information from Frank Young? He was more than optimistic when he wrote last month that "work continues" on Lincon Park - NO workers have been there for over a month. Is the NPS planning to cancel Mary McLeod Bethune day this year? Perhaps they should because work won't be done by July at the rate they're going.

Work resumed on the park yesterday and is continuing today. Let's hope the job will finally get finished.
