Please join Councilmember Wells for Part 2 of the Ward 6 Pedestrian Safety Initiative. The second meeting is a working meeting where we ask residents to roll up their sleeves and help work with the Department of Transportation, MPD, and the ANCs to develop solutions for the problems identified. Please join us and share your thoughts on pedestrian safety in the Ward and listen to local experts. Pedestrian Safety Forum, Part 2: Creating Solutions Saturday, March 15th, 2008 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Hine Junior High School -- Auditorium 335 8th Street SE Washington, DC 20003
On February 27, 2008, Councilmember Tommy Wells hosted a community forum titled “Pedestrian Safety Forum: Identifying Problems.” Residents were updated by representatives from the Department of Transportation on many pedestrian safety initiatives, and then community members worked in small groups to identify specific problems facing pedestrian safety. Most problems listed were categorized in one of two categories: systemic / city-wide problems and street / intersection specific problems. But overwhelmingly, residents agreed that in regard to the District’s transportation policy, the priority must be on the pedestrian and the focus should not be on creating more convenience for motorists. Click here to read the full report from the first forum. Copies will also be available at the forum on Saturday.
