Great news for downtown residents looking for better access to a polling place. Tommy has been working with the ANC 6C, Downtown Neighborhood Association, Mount Vernon Square Neighborhood Association and other involved neighbors to create a new voting precinct in downtown. These residents are currently a part of precinct 130 and have a polling place on Capitol Hill -- creating a barrier with distance and Metro access to the polls. As we shared on Monday, the DC Board of Elections and Ethics was convening this morning for a final decision on whether to create a new precinct 143. Click here for a Google map of the boundaries. Good news is coming in and we've received initials reports that the Board approved the move and new precinct. We have not gotten official word of this and we also do not know when these new boundaries will take effect. As we get more information, we'll update this posting.

(1) Untitled 2008-05-07 14:12:01 This effort could not have succeeded without the help of CM Tommy Wells, Commissioner Charley Docter, and the host of letters sent by neighborhood residents. The effort took off after Tommy got involved. Those in the new precinct will start using the new polling location in September. If interested in helping staff the new location please let me know.
