We just recieved the following notice about available funds for community groups looking to focus on youth crime prevention. Grants range between $500 and $20,000 for summer programs. There is a mandatory bidder's confernce on Wednesday, June 10th, for anyone interested in applying. Deadline for applications is June 17th. Click Here for more information and a template application. The organization has identified target areas for these grants, including PSA 103 in Ward 6.

I know there are a lot of great Ward 6 neighborhood organizations that could use this funding wisely.

Citywide Coordinating Council on Youth Violence Prevention Seeks Applicants for Youth Violence and Gang/Crew Violence Intervention Funding

The Citywide Coordinating Council on Youth Violence Prevention (CCCYVP) invites applicants for its Youth Violence and Gang/Crew Violence Intervention funding.

The funding is designed to intervene with young people (ages 14-24) residing within the District of Columbia, who are at risk of being violent or who are already involved with gangs/crews and/or violence.  The CCCYVP encourages formal and informal programs operated by community, civic organizations, churches/faith-based institutions, community-based organizations, etc.

The application deadline is June 17th, 2008 (4:00 pm).

For further information about this funding opportunity, visit www.chsfsc.org.

UPDATE: 6/4/08, 2:52 pm -- Recognizing the needs for youth violence prevention in all areas of the Ward, I contacted the grant administrator to ask if grants could be applied for youth in other PSAs. He said that the grants would not be limited to just the targeted PSAs on the map provided, and stated: “If interested individuals submit a proposal within an area outside of the listed PSA’s, can explain the overall problem and state how their program will work to address the problem, we encourage them to apply.”
