Convoy of Hope is a national nonprofit organization that provides disaster relief and non-disaster outreach to those in need in the United States and around the world. In 2006, the organization assisted nearly 4 million people in the United States and around the globe with food, clothing, medical aid, and other needed resources through outreaches and disaster response. A Convoy of Hope outreach is a day long event that works through local houses of worship, non-profit organizations and the government to distribute free groceries and organize job and health fairs and activities for children. Convoy of Hope has become the trusted partner of thousands of congregations, businesses, agencies, and compassion groups around the world. It is through this partnership that volunteers are mobilized and equipped to help those in need. This year Convoy of Hope events will occur in more than twenty-five communities across the United States, including Miami, Florida; Atlanta, Georgia; Detroit, Michigan; New Orleans, Louisiana; Dayton, Ohio; Houston and Dallas, Texas; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. The District’s convoy event will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at RFK Stadium. On that date over 1,200 volunteers from many non-profits, churches, and government agencies will step up and serve an estimated 10,000 guests at RFK Stadium and more than 40,000 pounds of food will be distributed. As of this date, more than 50 churches have indicated that they will help with this massive outreach to individuals and families. Free groceries, health and dental screenings, free haircuts, games and activities for children are just a few ways that our community will give the gift of hope to those in our community. Please spread the word about this event to anyone you think could benefit. You can also volunteer to help out on the 6th.
