Car Free Day DCPlease join me for the 2nd Annual DC Car Free Day on Monday, September 22nd. Last year, over 1,000 people took the Car Free Challenge and together, we saved 3,000 miles of car driving, 120 gallons of gas, and 2,400 pounds of carbon from being released into our air.

In our second year, Car Free Day is being embraced by our neighbors in Maryland and Virginia and we already have 3,500 people signed up for the Challenge. Have you taken the pledge?

DC Car Free DayWhat is Car Free Day? Every September 22, people from around the world get together to celebrate a day without cars. We’ve been called the most walkable city in America. We’ve got several transits options for just about everyone. With gas prices at an all time high, Car Free Day is the perfect time to leave your car at home and get around your neighborhood and the region by foot, bike, bus, train or by sharing the ride.

So please, join in the celebration of Car Free Day and take the Car Free Challenge!

To make the 2nd Annual Car Free Day even bigger than the first, join us for the Car Free Day Street Celebration. From 11 am to 3 pm, the city will close off F Street, NW at 7th Street, NW to create a pedestrian plaza with live music, yoga classes, free t-shirts and giveaways, free Segway demonstrations, free bicycle tune-ups, and test rides for DC’s newest program, SmartBike. Walk, bike or Metro to the celebration!

Also, please remember that this weekend is Walking Town DC -- check out the link for listings and descriptions of walking tours in your neighborhood.
