The District has a lot to celebrate – three years of progressively improving test scores! Our investment in teachers, programs, and buildings is paying off. Particularly impressive is that the improved performance is district-wide and in all types of schools. In addition, the achievement gap between African American and white students narrowed. Here’s what the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) reported: Of the 190 schools in the District: We have about two weeks to bask in the glory of our progress before OSSE releases the school–by-school reports. Then our schools have to face the No child Left Behind (NCLB) mandate that all our students must be reading and doing math on grade level by 2014 and figure out what they are doing well and what needs correction. But, we know that know that as a District: - Our kids made impressive strides in math; however, their performance in reading across grade-levels needs a lot of work. Until then, congratulate our teachers, principals, parents, and of course, our students. It took a lot of hard work to get this far. We still have a long way to go, but things are headed in the right direction. If you're interested in reading the full DC CAS report, click here.

He'd kept a lot of parents in the loop along the way over email. Written by Guest User () |
